Brian H. Wieder, MD

Dr. Wieder attended undergraduate school at the University of California Los Angeles. It is here that his initial interest in the neurosciences was fed. He began to study the effects of zero-gravity and weightlessness on the neuromuscular system, aiding in the understanding of the physiologic effects of zero-gravity in space flight followed by advanced physiology studies at Lund University in Lund, Sweden. He graduated from UCLA, with Honors and chose to pursue his interests in the neurosciences as a medical student at the University of Southern California. While in Medical school he published further scientific studies advancing the understanding of pathologies of the spine and spinal cord. He graduated from USC, School of Medicine as a Dean’s scholar.

He continued to pursue his interest in spinal cord and brain surgery as a resident in neurosurgical training at the Jackson Memorial / University of Miami Hospital and Clinics in Miami, Florida. While a resident in training, he continued to publish concerning the effects of hypothermia on spinal cord injury. Upon completing neurosurgical training he sought more advanced training in addressing diseases effecting the spine and spinal cord. He completed a Fellowship in complex spine, spinal cord, and spinal reconstructive surgery at the prestigious University of Miami. Concurrent to this, he assumed responsibility as a clinical instructor training neurosurgery residents at the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in Miami, Florida.

Dr. Wieder has served as neurosurgeon for the Denver Broncos football team and as a consultant to other professional sports teams. He served as the Director of the Acute Spinal Cord Injury Service at the Colorado Neurological Institute in Denver, Colorado, and has served as lead investigator at Swedish Medical Center as a trial site for the clinical IDE investigation of the Medtronic, Prestigetm™ Artificial Cervical Disc Replacement System, Depuy, J&J, DOC™ cervical system study and other clinical studies.

Dr. Wieder is Board Certified in Neurological Surgery and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Neurological Surgery. He is Fellowship trained in complex spine and spinal cord surgery and spinal reconstruction. He is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, and other professional societies. He has been selected as one of “America’s Top Physicians” by the Consumers’ Reseach Council of America (“Guide to America’s Top Physicians” 2004–2005 edition.)

He is president of Medical Innovators, a company that helps physicians bring improved technologies to the field of medicine and holds patents on technological breakthroughs that provide better, more cost efficient patient care.

Dr. Wieder travels extensively, lecturing on disorders of the spine and spinal cord. On a personal note he enjoys traveling frequently to Miami, Puerto Rico, Barcelona, and South America. He is fluent in Spanish and Swedish. He is a competitive tennis player and is a black belt in karate. His many other interests balance his professional and personal life.
